The Verity Group is pleased to support The Cones, a series of children's books which aims to teach good social values to children from all backgrounds. Each book highlights a different scenario in which the characters learn to be polite, friendly, have fun and adventures with emphasis on safety, ecology, inclusivity and diversity. The Cones are “Helping Corporate Britain Educate Children” and the author works closely with national and international companies to find a storyline which will help children to deal with their surroundings and open their minds to the huge variety of occupations they may find interesting, which includes the whole gamut of abilities and interests.
Cones On The Rails, commissioned by Grand Central Rail, takes children to Grand Central Station where they learn the fun and potential dangers of railways, such as platform and level crossing safety and how to behave on board a train. This book won the UK Rail Industry Award for Passenger Safety in 2017. Cones On The Waterfront, commissioned by BAM Nuttall, sees the Cones learning about flood alleviation, an important issue of modern life which has not been packaged for children to understand until now. The story highlights how much pleasure and fun can be had as well as the dangers associated with waterways. The story also encourages social values such as the need to respect the ecology of our waterways and the dangers to wildlife of littering.
These examples show the great work that author Chris Madeley has achieved, managing to create a series of books that are fun and enjoyable, but also containing a moral message and imparts great values that will help children learn to be friendly, conscientious and be able to keep themselves and others safe. The books are not restricted by cultural, religious or economic backgrounds, and some have already been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and French, demonstrating the ability of the stories to cross internationally diverse cultures to include children of many nations, which is something to be celebrated.
